Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner Course to be Held in

ESCONDIDO -- The Sexual Assault Response Teams (SART) of Palomar Pomerado Health (PPH), California Hospital Medical Center (CHMC) and
University Community Medical Center has openings in its Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner course for students. Applicants for the examiner component must be Physicians, Nurse Practitioners or RNs.
The course will be held June 7-11, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The location is to be announced.
This course is designed for investigators, advocates and medical professionals who are interested in developing their roles as interdisciplinary team members for SART. Upon completing the course, the examiner will be able to assess, document, examine (with the colposcope), photograph and properly collect evidence from the sexual assault patient. The examiner will also follow prescribed protocols for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and refer the patient. In addition, the examiner will be apprised of other team members' roles (i.e., law enforcement, advocacy and the criminal justice system), as well as the role the examiner will play in giving proper courtroom testimony and the victim witness program along with case studies.
There will also be a hands-on skill stations for medical personnel. In order to successfully complete the course, the participant must pass a didactic examination and the competency skills stations.
Tuition for the entire course is $495.
