Here's what forensic nurses have to say about the need for forensic nurse magazine:

"Forensic nurses have long awaited a publication which will keep them informed about state-of-the-art practices in their clinical specialty. The opportunity to learn about new products and to keep abreast of a wide range of continuing education offerings by reading one monthly publication will be incredibly useful to the busy clinician. Forensic nurses will not have to peruse countless other healthcare sources to find information applicable to their areas of interest, since the editorial staff will do the sifting and sorting and organize the vital information in one succinct format."
Janet Barber, MSN, RN, CEN, FAAFS/Greensburg, Ind.

"Forensic nursing is at a time and place where a peer-reviewed journal would be helpful in the advancement of the science. The specialty is growing at such a fast pace that getting accurate and cutting edge information out in a timely manner has become essential. A journal dedicated to forensic nursing would be significant for our profession. This journal could assist in disseminating important new evidence collection techniques, new equipment, and best practices."
Maureen C. Jones, RN MS
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner,
Co-Executive Director, Centre Abuse Response Team Inc./State College, Penn.

"Forensic nurse training programs were developed in the late s by physicians seeking broader solutions to an identified health and justice problem. Currently, forensic nursing has become a contemporary resource of international interest. Thousands of specialized nurses worldwide perform a variety of forensic functions in clinical practice and as consultants to attorneys, government agencies, forensic pathologists and law enforcement. As the profession grows in numbers and in roles, the need for education and direction in practice calls for the influence of professional literature on this well-established discipline. Until now, there has been a lack of readily available literature to guide nurses in forensic practice. We are in need of a professional journal devoted to the principles and philosophies of forensic nursing practice and one in which current forensic issues of practice are discussed internationally and our diverse cultural, social and political backgrounds are represented accurately."
Margaret M. Whelan, RN, BSN, Forensic Nurse Specialist/San Diego, Calif.

"I would absolutely love to have a professional forensic nursing journal to refer to when I want up-to-date opinions, resources, product information and case studies. Currently, if we want to know what's going on in the world of forensic science, most of us either do an Internet search, watch the latest forensic show on TV or try to read a journal that mentions a forensic study or two but never quite addresses the issues forensic nurses want to read about. It's nice if we know a cop or medical examiner who may share a
good case study, but really, it is time for a professional nursing journal that we can call our own."
Mary K. Sullivan, RNC, CARN, BSN, Forensic Nurse Examiner Team Coordinator
U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs/Phoenix, Ariz.

"Forensic nursing issues permeate professional nursing roles and practice settings. To date, nurses rely on specialty journals to gather information about forensic nursing. The scope, quantity and quality of literature about this evolving segment of nursing have been limited. There is a need for a professional forensic nursing journal to disseminate knowledge about the developing specialty of forensic nursing."
Barbara Scott Cammuso, PhD, EdD, RN, CS
