HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency today announces that its Victim Compensation Assistance Program has provided more than $100 million in financial assistance to crime victims since it was established in .
Chairman Walter M. Phillips Jr. said the fund is essential to the healing process as it helps victims recover financial losses incurred as a result of a crime.
"In many cases, a victim's wounds may never fully heal, but the assistance PCCD provides through the Victim Compensation Assistance Program can help them begin to recover, financially and emotionally," said Phillips.
The program covers medical expenses, forensic rape exams, loss of income or support, childcare expenses, funeral costs, counseling fees, stolen benefit cash, crime scene clean up, travel and relocation expenses.
No taxpayer dollars are used to compensate victims of crime. Claims are paid out of the Crime Victims Compensation Fund, which is supported through fines and penalties collected from perpetrators of crimes.
