Coroner Clears Sydney Hospitals on 14 Patient Deaths
Posted on: 08/30/

SYDNEY -- The New South Wales Coroners Court has found there is no need to further investigate 14 patient deaths at hospitals in Sydney's south-west. The deaths at Camden, Cambelltown and Liverpool Hospitals are 14 of 33 currently being investigated by the coroner.

All of the deaths, which occurred between July and January , were referred back to the coroner after investigations by the Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC).

Deputy State Coroner Carl Milovanovich found issues of treatment and care identified as potential contributing factors in the deaths were properly investigated by the HCCC, and do not fall under the jurisdiction of the Coroners Court. He slightly amended the cause of death for five of the patients, but ruled no issues of a coronial nature have been identified in the remainder to warrant further investigations or inquests.
