NJCASA 'Speak Out' Event on April 10 to Protest Sexual Violence
Posted on: 04/07/

TRENTON, N.J. -- The New Jersey Coalition Against Sexual Assault (NJCASA), the collective voice for rape crisis centers and victims of sexual assault across the Garden State, has organized a state-wide Speak Out event to raise awareness regarding sexual assault issues and to protest all forms of sexual violence.

The event will be held on the steps of the State House in Trenton on Thursday, April 10, from noon to 2 p.m. April, which advocates for victims of sexual assault have long designated as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, was officially declared Sexual Assault Awareness Month recently in a bill signed by the New Jersey governor.

Organizers say the event is being held because victims of sexual assault need to know that there are confidential services available to them and compassionate, trained workers in every county to deliver these services, and because people generally need to know that sexual assault will not go away unless members of society discuss the issues and determine ways in which everyone can work together to eliminate sexual violence.

In addition to NJCASA staff, rape crisis advocates and survivors from across the state will attend the event, many of whom will speak out against sexual violence. Legislators, medical workers, law enforcement workers are also expected to attend. Celebrities who have taken a stance against sexual violence will also be present, including J. Saint, an MTV-award-winning rapper. Tony Porter, an NJCASA spokesperson who advocates on behalf of victims of sexual violence at colleges and corporations across the country, will also be present.

The NJCASA invites women, men and children from across the state to join them to add their voices to the collective voice of people opposed to sexual violence.
