National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) Expands Advisory Council
Posted on: 06/04/

ENOLA, Pa. -- The National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) has added five new members to its advisory council, thereby increasing the body to 23 members. Karen Baker, NSVRC project director, explained that selection to this council is based on the experience and areas of expertise of the nominees as well as the specific needs of the NSVRC and its strong commitment to ethnic, racial, gender and geographic diversity.

The five new members are: Anna Fairclough, executive director of Standing Together Against Rape, Inc. (STAR) in Anchorage, Ala.; Nan Gelman, a police officer at Oakland University in Rochester, Mich.; Kellie Greene, director and founder of SOAR (Speaking Out About Rape, Inc.) in Orlando, Fla.; Clema Lewis, co-director of the Women's Coalition of St. Croix in the Virgin Islands; and Kimber Nicoletti, special projects and minority outreach coordinator of CARe: Communities Against Rape in West Lafayette, Ind. Baker says the new members will add even greater strength to the NSVRC's already impressive advisory council.

The NSVRC supports all those working in rape crisis centers, and in state, territory and tribal coalitions by providing information and resources. The NSVRC works to promote a more unified national voice and greater sharing of resources and research. Baker says the diversity of the council and their significant skills provide important insight on issues of policy, growth and direction.

Funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the NSVRC is a project of the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape (PCAR). Delilah Rumburg, executive director of PCAR, says the NSVRC has demonstrated incredible growth in its four years of operation and enjoys much credibility and respect nationwide; she attributed much of the NSVRC's success to the wisdom and great diversity of the Advisory Council.
